Elsternwick Park south upgrades

New exercise equipment

We’re looking to encourage active lifestyles by installing new fitness equipment that caters to a wide range of ages and abilities. The path network around Elsternwick Park South will have four new fitness stations installed that cater for a wide variety of ages and exercises styles, as well as instructions on how to alter the equipment and introduce additional challenges to your workout.

The equipment will be installed in August 2024 and ready for community use in late Septmeber 2024. 

New playground 

The children’s playground in Elsternwick Park South (northern section) is being fully upgraded, as part of our plan to improve all Bayside playgrounds. 

The playground will feature a range of new playground equipment in response to community feedback, as well as accessibility improvements and new planting for more shade. 

Improvements to the play equipment

• New basket swing, toddler swing and a seesaw
• Nature play elements including an eagles lair, water play unit and a teepee structure
• A new wooden fort with accessible ramped access, log steppers and shade sail
• A wide range of imaginative play elements including musical instruments, musical pipes, a spiral game table and speaking tubes.

Other improvements include:

• Playground surfaces will be replaced and new trees planted for shade
• Existing trees will be retained and new trees will be added
• A new shade structure will be installed over the existing picnic seating
• Additional garden bed plantings, logs and rockwork
• Improved access to the playspace

Construction is expected to commence in July 2024 and take around four months to complete. The playground will be closed to the public during construction.

New toilets

We’re building new public toilet amenities close to the southern playground and barbeque area at Elsternwick Park. 

These facilities will improve amenities for all park users, including dog walkers and sportspeople. 

Community feedback from the Public Toilet Strategy has helped Council understand the support for a new public toilet in Elsternwick Park. 

The feedback we received demonstrated that there is strong community support for a new toilet in Elsternwick Park and the best location is close to Oval 4 for sports and recreation users, as well as providing an increased buffer from residential properties. The design features two unisex ambulant cubicles and an accessible cubicle/parent room.
