Refurbishment plan for beloved Hampton Library

A revamp of Hampton Library will create an inviting new community space.

The refurbishment will increase the floor space, allowing for increased study or remote working space and provide an opportunity for the library to host an improved program of events.

A $90,000 grant from the Victorian Government's Living Libraries Infrastructure Program will be matched by $90,000 of Council spend on the project.

Modern accessible shelving will replace the original wooden high shelves and some of the shelving will be on wheels to allow for a more adaptable space for different community needs.

Minister for Local Government, Suburban Development and Veterans, Shaun Leane and Member for Southern Metropolitan Region Enver Erdogan visited Hampton Library to announce the grant.

Hampton library was built in 1960 and needs work to make it a more contemporary community space.

Refurbishment of the much-loved building is expected to be completed in September.

Local Government Victoria’s Living Libraries Infrastructure Program enables councils and regional library corporations to deliver new or renewed library infrastructure for their communities.
