Netball centre project proceeds
Construction by the Victorian School Building Authority of stage one of the Bayside Netball Centre and Sports Oval at Sandringham Secondary College will now commence.
The community sports facilities will be built in two stages:
Stage 1 - construction of the two indoor courts, two southern outdoor courts (including the covered outdoor court), car park, sportsground, surrounds and fencing
Stage 2 - seven northern outdoor courts, lighting and shelters.
The commencement of stage two is pending the outcome of a decision by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) on whether a Planning Permit to use the proposed community sports facility on the school site is required. The hearing is set for May 2022.
Bayside Mayor, Cr Alex del Porto welcomed the start of construction and said that it was time to get on with delivering improved facilities for Bayside’s netballers.
“Council is committed to progressing the Bayside Netball Centre project to support physical activity and community connection for our netballers and their families as well as school students,” he said.
“We will now proceed with stage one of the project in conjunction with the Victorian School Building Authority.”
