Books and more delivered to you

Let Bayside Libraries come to you with our invaluable Home Library service.

The Bayside Home Library Service is designed for people who are injured or living with mobility issues that make it difficult to leave the house.

Books, magazines, and other library materials are tailored to your taste and delivered to your door.

Pam has been accessing this service since 2020 following an accident that left the Hampton resident unable to walk.

“I am an avid reader and have been using Bayside libraries since I was a child,” Pam said.

“When I couldn’t walk after my accident and didn’t have anyone to take me to the library, I was thrilled to be eligible for this wonderful home library service.

“Every four weeks a lovely volunteer turns up with a bag of 4-5 books that someone at the library has taken time to select things I like – crime novels, biographies, books about the film industry - things I am interested in.”

To join Bayside Home Library, residents must complete a membership eligibility test, which is assessed annually.

Members can borrow up to 15 items from the library’s collection of fiction, non-fiction, large print books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, and items in languages other than English. Kindles and Kobos are also available.

Your personalised selection will be delivered on the same day each month to your private residence, retirement village or accommodation facility.

“I have loved the continuity of this service, I’ve had the same volunteer delivering my books for the whole time I’ve been part of this service,” Pam said.

“If you or someone you know loves reading and is housebound, please get in touch with Council and see if you’re eligible, it is a wonderful service delivered by lovely people.”
