Alerting voters after post box stolen in Brighton
We are urging voters who lodged their completed election ballot packs at 79 Asling Street, Brighton on Sunday or Monday this week to contact the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) for a replacement vote, following the theft of the post box.
It is possible that post by residents from this area, and anyone visiting the area, may have been in the post box at the time.
Bayside voters who lodged their completed ballot pack at the Australia Post box located at 79 Asling Street, Brighton between 9 am on Sunday 20 October and 9.30 am on Monday 21 October should go to the Bayside election office at Holy Trinity Anglican Church Hall, 14 Thomas Street, Hampton, to complete a replacement ballot, or call the VEC on 131 832.
Voters from outside Bayside who lodged their votes at this post box during this time should visit the election office for the council they’re enrolled in for a replacement.
Election offices are open until 8 pm tonight and from 9 am – 6 pm on Friday.
Ensuring that every ballot pack is returned to the VEC safely and securely is critical to the integrity of the election. The VEC is working closely with Australia Post to ensure every ballot pack reaches its destination.
Australia Post and Victoria Police are investigating this incident. If you have any information about the theft, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit crimestoppersvic.com.au
