Bayside’s two historical societies help to preserve and celebrate our community’s history. Volunteers are essential to keeping the history pages turning.
Brighton Historical Society is seeking new members to join their committee in a range of roles and be part of the next chapter.
The society has worked to preserve and foster connections with local history for over 60 years. A group of dedicated volunteers maintains the historical collection, responds to research requests and delivers a range of events, including walking tours, primary school programs and talks.
Locals come with questions about their ancestors or the history of their house, and primary school classes come to learn about the way people lived in the past. Academics, artists and journalists come to dig through the information in our archives. In 2022, the Society took part in an episode of Who Do You Think You Are, helping TV vet Dr Chris Brown to uncover a Brighton family mystery
The society has a rich collection of historical artefacts, clothing, photographs, artwork, maps and house records, tracking the changing face of Brighton from early settlement through to the present day.
Located in the Brighton Town Hall, Brighton Historical Society is open Mondays and Thursdays from 12pm to 4pm.
Council supports the Brighton Historical Society and Sandringham & District Historical Society to share the stories of our past.
