The Brighton Beach Bowls Club is one of the local businesses who we have supported to install solar panels and a battery, thanks to our Climate Emergency Grants program.

Assistant treasurer of Brighton Beach Bowls Club, Tony Geraghty said the new solar panels and battery are having a big impact on their business.

“We needed the battery because we have night-time functions that require the use of electricity,” Tony said.

From a social, environmental and economic perspective, Tony said the solar installation will not only help to fight the climate emergency, but also reduce hiring and running costs at the club.

“We have a lot of community groups that use the bowls club — including the cancer group, an arts collective and a parent-and-child group — and because now we’ve installed solar, we can keep our hire fees down and won’t have to raise them,” Tony said.
