Changing Places Awareness Day

International Changing Places Awareness Day is a day dedicated to raising awareness of how Changing Places facilities opens up the world to people with high support needs and their carers.

Changing Places provide suitable facilities for people who cannot use standard accessible toilets.

These public toilets include an adult sized changing table, ceiling hoist, a peninsular toilet, privacy screen and additional circulation space to meet the needs of people with complex disabilities and their carers. More Changing Places facilities mean widening the boundaries experienced by people with physical disabilities and giving them a greater choice of places to go.

The inclusion of a Changing Places and portable Changing Places facilities gives residents the opportunity to participate in a community life, without being excluded.

Bayside currently has two Changing Places toilets: one located in the Church Street precinct (accessed from Church Street through the pedestrian walkway between 82 and 86 Church Street) and our award winning Changing Places at the Thomas Street accessible playground, Thomas Street South Reserve, Hampton.

There are three more Changing Places toilets proposed for Bayside at Half Moon Bay, Elsternwick Park Nature Reserve and Brighton Recreational Centre.
