Myrtle Road Playground upgrade

Render image of new train for Myrle Road playground. Front carriage with green roof. Green bridge connecting to the first carriage with green slide and green roof. Timber balance beam with green rope railings connecting to the second carriage with a green roof and slide.

The existing train at Myrtle Road playground has been a favourite and imaginative play space for locals and Hampton Community Kindergarten families for many years. As part of Bayside’s Playground Improvement Plan, the old train, slide and rocker are being removed and getting an upgrade.

The playground will be closed for the duration of the upgrade to ensure safety and the timely dismantling of old equipment, and installation of new features. We’re retaining the swings, picnic table and shade structure, however they are not accessible during works.

Key features

The new train includes:

  • neutral colours to integrate with the natural landscape.
  • three connected train elements including: two slides, balance beam, climbing wall, multiple sensory play elements, some shade cover and new rocker
  • dimensions (H) 3150mm, (W) 6910mm, (L) 13020mm.

Timing

Works are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 23 July 2024, for up to 3 weeks, weather permitting. Construction is being undertaken during normal building hours, Monday – Friday between approximately 7:30am – 3pm.

What to expect during works

The playground will be closed for the duration of the upgrade to ensure safety and the timely dismantling of old equipment, and installation of new features. We anticipate a low impact on the local community during construction.

  • Construction fencing is being installed around the works area in the playground while the old equipment is dismantled, and the new equipment installed.
  • Dust and construction noise will be kept to a minimum.
  • Construction vehicles will use available parking around the site

Project cost

The project is being funded through the Victorian Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program Funding initiative.

Indicative cost of the playground upgrade is $55,000.
