Mosaic Bliss
26 Advantage Road
Artist Jacqui McCooke, had her first taste of mosaics when her children were very young, attending night classes with a group of girlfriends.
"It was a wonderful way to relax and enjoy the company of friends, but it also sparked a sense of creativity and fun," Jacqui said.
Over the years, she has dabbled in creative avenues, enjoying classes in watercolour, sewing, clay, sandstone, and cooking.
In 2017 she returned to mosaics, becoming absorbed in creating pieces working with glass and tiles, and fell in love with Smalti – a traditional handmade mosaic glass. This sparked a desire to travel to Italy in 2018, to study in Ravena with Luciana Notturni, where she worked with Smalti and marble and discovered the charm of the renowned Byzantine mosaics.
Mosaic Bliss was born in January 2020, as an avenue to continue classes in the local area and offer a fun, and welcoming space for mosaic enthusiasts and beginners to come together, share ideas, knowledge, and experience.
Based at Mulbury, as one of six resident artists, Jacqui has exhibited and sold some of her work at the Mulbury Gallery in Highett. She has also had a mosaic in the MAANZ 30/30 International exhibition in 2021. She is available for commissions and community projects and hold classes twice a week on Tuesday evenings at the Castlefield Community Centre, Hampton, and Saturday afternoons at 26 Advantage Road, Highett.
