Explore Urban Farming

Interested in growing produce at home but don't know where to start? Our series of urban farming workshops could be the answer.

About the Workshops

Our series of urban farming workshops, facilitated by Sustainable Gardening Australia are designed to empower you with the knowledge and tools to learn and enhance your skills to grow food in your home, regardless of size or space.

Why grow food at home?

As we all become more conscious of our impact on the environment, growing food at home, whether in our backyard, windowsill, or a small shared courtyard, is becoming a big deal. Reducing supermarket food miles, limiting packaging (especially soft plastics), and using less water, energy, and chemicals have never been more critical than right now.

Not only that, it saves you money.

Growing your own produce is a great way to help create a local and sustainable community and feel connected to our land. Produce gardens provide you with the very freshest, seasonally appropriate, and naturally ripened food, and there is nothing more satisfying than that "garden to plate" feeling.

No-dig gardening can also be used to grow healthy food where soil contamination is of concern.

The workshop covers no-dig garden bed design, suitable materials, and options like lasagna (or layered) garden beds, raised beds, Hugelkultur, and straw bale gardens. It also covers essential information about planting and maintaining your no-dig garden.
