Brighton Historical Society - President
Brighton Historical Society (BHS) is a is a not-for-profit incorporated volunteer organisation and was founded in 1963. BHS collects, preserves and exhibits items and information connected to the history and heritage of Brighton, Victoria.
BHS currently has a membership of over 200 and is open Monday and Thursday 12 midday to 4.00pm.
BHS welcomes new members and anyone who would like to contribute to the management and development of the Society.
Key Functions of President:
• Provide leadership and management oversight of the activities undertaken by the Society’s volunteers.
• Act as a Responsible Person for the Society’s governance responsibilities and banking operations
• Establish links and engage with local government, press, libraries and other groups with similar aims
• Promote the value of the Society, the preservation of local history, the Society’s collection and research services to the community
Key Responsibilities:
• Promote the Society, its value and role in the community
• Oversee and coordinate the Society’s operations and activities undertaken by the Volunteers
Includes Administration, Quarterly Journal, Events, Exhibitions, Collection management, Cataloguing, Curation of assets, Managing donations of items, Research enquiries
• Chair the monthly Committee meetings
• Establish and maintain communication with stakeholders including schools and colleges
