Getting Published/What a Joke! writing workshop with Katherine Collette

Join us at Sandringham Library for a two-part writing workshop. Katherine Collette coaches unpublished writers and debut authors on getting published, enjoying being published and keeping writing regardless.

Session 1: How to get your book published

This is a how-to on getting your writing published by a traditional book publisher. It will include the following:

  • What all published authors have in common
  • Four things to do that will massively increase your chances of getting published
  • How to know if your work is ready to pitch to agents and publishers
  • How to pitch agents and publishers
  • What getting published means and how hard it is to get published in Australia
  • What authors get paid, which leads perfectly to the next part of the workshop.

Session 2: Humour writing

Anyone can be funny. This workshop will help you generate original jokes and learn to infuse humour into your writing. The techniques and ideas can be used in short-form humour writing (jokes, cartoons, speeches, Instagram posts) or integrated into longer-form fiction and non-fiction.

Katherine Collette has written two novels for adults, "The Helpline" and "The Competition". "The Helpline" was published in ANZ, North America, the UK, Italy and Germany. Katherine wrote and illustrated "The Too Tall Tales of Alma T Best", a middle-grade (children's) series. She also co-hosted The First Time podcast, a podcast about writing and being a writer. Her cartoons have appeared in The Griffith Review.
