Lost pets

Have you lost your beloved pet? Don't panic - there is plenty you can do to find them.

If we find your pet, we will do everything we can to return your pet to you. Find out more about impounded animals.

What to do if your pet goes missing

For dogs, search on foot in the area your dog went missing and take a drive to search a larger area. Check places that are familiar to your dog - the local park, beach, shops and other areas you normally walk.

For cats, search your own backyard and house very carefully as cats may hide very well if they are scared or injured. Check with your neighbours and get permission to search their yards, sheds and garages. Cats will often hide very close to home or may get locked away by accident. Listen carefully when you are searching for your cat - a quiet meow can easily be missed.

Contact your neighbours

Speak to your neighbours and/or create a lost notice to leave with neighbours. Pictures tell a thousand words - a neighbour might have seen your pet and a photo might jog their memory.

Ask neighbours to search sheds and garages or to open a door or window while you call your pet.

Update your animal's microchip details

Contact your pets animal registry to make sure all your details are up to date and to report your pet is missing. If you are uncertain which registry has your details, you can find out at Petaddress.

Contact The Lost Dogs Home

The Lost Dogs Home provide pound services for Bayside City Council. They will contact you if your pet can be identified but you can report your missing pet to them as well.

The Lost Dogs Home also displays impounded dogs and impounded cats on their website.

Contact  vets and other animal shelters

Contact your local vets to report your pet missing. People often take a lost animal to the vet, even if it is not injured.

Also, contact other animal shelters as your pet may have wandered a long way or someone might have driven it to another shelter.

The Lost Dogs Home has a list of animal shelters.
