Wild wanders through Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve

Newly seeded wildflower meadow at Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve with the community edge toilet and BBQ facilities in the background.

We’re almost ready to open the new wildflower meadow and more community facilities at Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve.

We’ve created a wildflower meadow of indigenous vegetation by planting approximately 15,000 new plants and shrubs and 1,000 new trees.

When the meadow opens in July, some areas will remain temporarily fenced to help the new plants and trees establish. There will also be netting to help protect aquatic plantings from the ravenous local ducks.

We encourage you to visit the reserve and enjoy its transformation, but please keep to the paths to give these new plants a chance to grow.

Over the past year, the eastern area of Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve along New Street, Brighton has undergone a remarkable transformation.

New community facilities also opening in July include a covered shelter, picnic and barbecue facilities, as well as public toilets. This area, called the Community Edge, provides a comfortable place for visitors to relax and enjoy the wildflower meadow.

The site will be continuously monitored, with additional planting carried out as needed.
