Revamped North Brighton Children's Centre opens

The refurbished North Brighton Children’s Centre is now open after a plaque unveiling by Bayside Mayor, Cr Hanna El Mouallem and Ryan Batchelor MLC.

The children’s centre, located at 145 Cochrane Street, Brighton, offers flexible and imaginative areas for play, wellbeing and education across kindergarten, Maternal and Child Health, and occasional care services.

Council contributed $3.26m to the much-needed refurbishments of the Children’s Centre, with the Victorian State Government contributing $600k under the auspice of the Building Blocks program.

Cr El Mouallem said the refurbished facility now provides the space and learning opportunities that are required for young children to grow and develop.

“This wonderful facility allows for a smooth pathway and transition for children from the cradle through to their two years of kindergarten before starting school,” said Cr El Mouallem.

“The community benefit and social integration that parents and children gain from accessing the various services and programs from one facility, is so valuable.”

The original facility was built and officially opened in May 2003 and was considered fit for purpose for its time, however given the increase in demand for children to access occasional care and three-year-old kinder the original facility was full to capacity.

The footprint of the building was expanded to accommodate the introduction of 3-year-old kindergarten, and the internal facilities have been enhanced to meet current standards, ensuring they are fit for purpose and providing a stimulating learning environment for our youngest learners.
