About BIG Summer Read:
The BIG Summer Read is a Victorian statewide summer reading campaign for children and young people.
It is a collaborative Public Libraries Victoria initiative, developed to raise awareness and ensure ALL Victorian children have access to the resources they need to maintain literacy skills over the summer school holidays.
Who can enter Big Summer Read?
The BIG Summer Read is open to anyone ages 0-18. It aims to encourage children to read for pleasure and addresses the issue of the 'summer slide'.
This refers to the loss of literacy experienced over the long summer break if children are not exposed to books or reading.
Important dates:
1 December - Big Summer Read campaign commences
31 January 2024 - Big Summer Read campaign ends
3 February 2024 - Bayside prize winners announced at Sandringham Library
Celebrate community and end of Big Summer Read
12 February - Statewide prize draw and winner notification
