Robert Law and his fascinating collection of photos

Join the Sandringham and District Historical Society at Sandringham Library to hear about Robert Law - globetrotter and passionate photographer, Robert left a treasure trove of 1,000+ lantern slides now held by the Royal Historical Society of Victoria.

A Scot born in 1870, Robert was Chief Chemist, Assayer, and Refiner at the Royal Mint in Melbourne, volunteered with the Defence Forces for over 20 years then joined the AIF in 1916 serving in WWI as Lieutenant-Colonel, earning a mention in dispatches for his bravery in France. He loved yachting, athletics, swimming, and had a keen interest in chemical research.

Tony Aplin, a passionate volunteer researcher with the Sandringham & District Historical Society, will share the story of Robert’s life and present a selection of those incredible lantern slides.
