Fluorescent globes, batteries, mobile phones, CD and DVD recycling

Did you know that you can recycle more than just paper, glass and plastic? In fact, common household items such as light globes and batteries can leech toxic chemicals – such as mercury – into the environment, if disposed of incorrectly.

Bayside City Council is now running a drop-off recycling service* as a pilot program allowing residents to safely recycle the following:

  • Compact fluorescent light bulbs and fluorescent tubes
  • Mobile phones and accessories (including chargers and cords)
  • Household batteries
  • CDs, DVDs, VHS cassettes and their cases

The goal of this program is to prevent these items from ending up in landfill, thereby helping to protect our environment.

The recycling station is located in the foyer of Bayside City Council’s corporate office at 76 Royal Avenue, Sandringham. Office hours are 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday (except public holidays).

If there is sufficient interest from the public, we will look at expanding the service to make it available at other locations. So feel free to use this new service and let your friends and family know about it.

If you have any questions, contact Bayside’s Environmental Education Officers on (03) 9599 4444.

* Commercial quantities not accepted.
