Hazardous materials

Bayside City Council residents can deposit their unwanted hazardous materials during the 'Detox your home' periods, advertised throughout each year.
Chemicals accepted include:

  • old paints
  • batteries
  • fluorescent tubes
  • gas cylinders
  • insecticides and pesticides
  • kitchen and bathroom cleaners
  • brake fluids, fuels and coolants
  • poisonous household and garden products
  • solvents and glues
  • photographic chemicals and fire extinguishers.

Materials not accepted include:

  • chemicals used by business for industrial/commercial purposes
  • ammunition and flares
  • farm chemicals
  • motor oil
  • waste asbestos and containers over 20 litres.

The collected materials will be treated and recycled, or disposed of safely by a specialist team.

'Detox Your Home' is a free service provided by Sustainability Victoria in conjunction with Bayside City Council - designed to collect potentially dangerous household chemical products and dispose of them without putting strain on the environment.
