Volunteer Sailor/Deckhand

What we Do:
The 27-metre topsail schooner *Enterprize* is a replica 19th century tall ship whose mission is to provide all Victorians with the opportunity to experience life on board a 19th-century sailing ship. Based in the Docklands, weekdays see *Enterprize* play host to Victorian schoolchildren for everything from two-hour history and sail sessions to multi-day sail training excursions, while weekends are spent conducting 1-to-2 hour long sails out of Williamstown, Geelong, and Portarlington for members of the public.

Volunteering With Us:
All the admin, maintenance, and sailing of *Enterprize* is done by volunteers, and we come from all walks of life; from mechanics and teachers to physicists and theatre technicians.

Your involvement with the Enterprize can be whatever you want it to be: there’s no requirement to do maintenance (although we appreciate it) and signing up for sailing or maintenance shifts is as simple as logging into our portal and applying for the ones you want. Some crew only sail once or twice a year when they’re here from interstate or cause they’ve got a few days without the kids!

Sailing the Enterprize is a great way to get some sunshine and fresh air, to get active, make friends, and help educate people about maritime history. Whether your interest is sailing, maintenance, or just the sheer romance of tall ships, we’d love to have you on board! Absolutely no experience is needed - all training is provided in house - and for those who want to go further in maritime, time spent on Enterprize counts as commercial seatime for AMSA certifications.
