Bayside Child Care Centres partnership with the Holland Foundation’s ‘Community Links’ program
A group of fifteen, four to five year old children from Bayside’s Hampton and Sandringham Child Care Centres, will visit Hampton House on Tuesday 10 May 2011 at 10.15am to participate in an art therapy session with the senior residents. They will also sing songs, share stories and generally get to know each other.
Aged care accommodation facility, Hampton House, is located in Ludstone Street, Hampton.
The children will also be involved in a hand puppet creative experience designed to encourage interaction with the senior residents.
Bayside Hampton and Sandringham Child Care Centres have been involved with the Holland Foundations Community Links program for over six years which was established to build relationships and connections between Bayside children and the elderly.
Bayside Mayor Cr Alex del Porto congratulated everyone associated with this very special community program.
“Developing a relationship between young children and senior residents is something to be encouraged because it bridges the generation gap between the innocent and the wise,” he said.
According to Grant Holland, a volunteer of the Holland Foundation, the long term partnership between Bayside City Council, the Bayside Child Care Centre staff, various Bayside nursing homes and the children and parents within Bayside, is unique.
“Collaborative ventures such as this link communities and prevent isolation and loneliness and we look forward to continuing the partnership for many years to come,” he said.
