Bayside City Council Launches 2011 Built Environment Awards

Nominations are now open for Bayside City Council’s 2011 Built Environment Awards to promote quality urban design and recognise professionals who make a positive design impact in Bayside with high standards of excellence in architecture.

Since the Awards program was established six years ago, the Built Environment Awards program has recognised the work of 23 designers and 26 exceptional designs.

“Every year the Bayside Built Environment Awards are eagerly anticipated by architects and designers to promote quality design and acknowledge the contribution to the City’s built environment,” said Mayor Alex del Porto.

“Bayside is proud of its distinct neighbourhood character that ranges from typical compact Victorian era dwellings to contemporary buildings of the highest standards. New developments that complement and enhance our neighbourhoods are most welcome in Bayside.

“Our City is well known for its highly sought after innovative architecturally designed properties that attract the attention of buyers worldwide,” he said.

Announcing the launch of the 2011 Awards, Mayor del Porto said he encourages everyone to nominate a property that they believe epitomises excellence in design and therefore deserves recognition.

“If a property impresses you and you feel it is beautifully designed then you should let us know.”

Online nominations across seven categories will be received until 22 July 2011. The judging process will take place in August and winners will be announced at the prestigious Awards ceremony in October.

Criteria will include responsiveness to neighbourhood character, streetscape quality, local identity, heritage, public places and the natural environment.

To be eligible for nomination, all entries must be located within the City of Bayside’s boundaries, must have been completed, occupied, or ready for occupation by 30 June 2011 and must not have received an award or commendation in previous Bayside Built Environment Awards.
