Council to Host a Community Day to Celebrate the Opening of The Gallery at the Bayside Cultural & Arts Centre

Bayside City Council will host a Community Day to mark the official opening of The Gallery at the Bayside Arts & Cultural Centre on Sunday 29 May from 11am to 3pm.

There will be a wide range of free activities and tours for all ages to enjoy.  The Gallery is located in the Brighton Town Hall on the corner of Carpenter and Wilson Streets in Brighton. Everyone is welcome to come and enjoy what promises to be a fun and enjoyable day.

At 11am Damian Smith will lead a tour of the exhibition called Bayside:  Live, Work, Play which brings together works by nineteen artists, inspired by their connection to the bay and its surrounds.  At 2pm Elle Credlin will lead a tour of her display called Day Trippers & Holiday Makers by the Bay: 1890 – 1920, providing fascinating glimpses of Bayside at the turn of the century.

The Community Day will also feature free art activities. Children will enjoy the watercolour and pastels activities led by Blanc Canvas Studios, while teenagers and young people can make their own animation.  Demonstrations by professional artists, including local resident and exhibiting artist Emma Davies, will also be conducted and professional story teller Jackie Kerin will share her seaside tales.

There will be tours of the Brighton Theatre Company and refreshments will be available throughout the day.

A major feature of the day will be a Paint Out competition where artists, and those who just want to test their own talent, are encouraged to paint or draw the historic Brighton Town Hall, Brighton Library or garden and surrounds.
