Earth Hour 2011
On Saturday 26 March 2011 at 8:30 p.m., hundreds of millions of people in more than 130 countries across every continent will unite in a single moment of celebration and contemplation of the planet by switching off their lights for one designated hour – Earth Hour. By taking part in this global ‘lights out’ event they will be acknowledging their commitment to a personal action that benefits the planet in the year ahead.
Bayside City Council will be participating in this years event. The lights will be going out at various locations along Beach road, the Corporate centre will be dimmed and a well known area of Bayside will be lit up by candlelight.
We would like to extend the invitation to our residents and businesses to join us during this event. Just arrange for your non-essential lights to be turned off for the hour - perhaps take the opportunity to have a 'lights-out" party with friends, or a romantic dinner with a loved one. It's up to you!
This year's theme is 'Go beyond the hour'. So after the hour is done and the candles blown out, take a moment to think about how you can continue to have a positive impact on the planet.
For more information visit the earth hour website or call Council on 9599 4444 and speak to one of Bayside's Waste Education Officers.
